Our team is paving the way to a strong start for 2024, as they were able to accomplish two CLAIRE events (acronym for Clean, Lubricate, Adjust, Inspect, Repair, Eliminate) this spring. These events successfully engaged a total of four teams across the organization with the goals to continue improving our operator care processes, increase equipment reliability, and more.
In February, members of Duke Watt’s and Hunter Franklin’s teams completed efforts on two rollers, a power broom, and a backhoe. In March, members of Dylan Robinson’s and Cameron Collins’ teams tackled two power brooms, two pavers, a backhoe, a milling machine, and traffic control supplies. In short, we readied a large portion of our equipment fleet for the upcoming grading and paving season.
Shannon Minga, TPR Coordinator, summarized the role that these events play in our Total Process Reliability initiative by sharing, “Each of these *CLAIREs involved maintenance on quite a few pieces of equipment. This year, we’re putting focus on how to keep equipment cleaned and maintained throughout the season.” Colton Collins, CI Program Manager, spoke to our goal of continuous improvement by adding, “With each CLAIRE we host, we aim to get better along the way.”
We also heard firsthand from several team members participating in these CLAIREs, as each shared the importance that maintenance plays in their projects. Lenji Hawkins, Loader Operator, said, “If my equipment looks clean, I feel good about my job.” He joked, “I like to see that bright yellow on the equipment.”
Silvio Hurtado, Leadman, added, “I like to keep my mill clean so I can tell if it is in need of repair. It makes it easier to find [any issues] with the equipment.”
Geoffrey Poppleton, Leadman, closed with, “This is beneficial because we can clean and check our equipment before we head out into ‘the real world’ with it.”
