MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Lehman-Roberts, a Granite Company (NYSE:GVA), and a leader in the Mid-South highway paving and asphalt industries, received the award of Best Interstate Mill and Overlay from the Mississippi Asphalt Pavement Association (MAPA). The award was presented at MAPA’s 2024 Quality Asphalt Conference.

Lehman-Roberts won the award for the Interstate 55 project (I-55) in Carroll County, Mississippi, which was led by project manager Eric Lowstuter and with crews led by Walter Shoemaker and Levester “Duke” Watt. Lehman-Roberts also joined forces with Delta Contractors, who were pivotal in project success with their milling operations.
The I-55 project comprised of nearly 50,000 tons of varied asphalt mix types. This mill and overlay project, which was approximately 6 miles long, began 0.5 miles south of the SR 35 interchange to the Montgomery County line. This also included the milling and overlay of the 10-foot paved shoulders throughout the project. Once completed, the project had an impressive final average Mean Roughness Index (MRI) of 28 inches/mile on the OGFC surface.
