Moving Quality Forward: Nat Maclin Takes on a New Role

Lehman-Roberts, A Granite Company, is proud to announce the promotion of Nat Maclin to Quality Control Manager of Outgoing Materials. Since joining Lehman-Roberts in 2016, Nat has built his career around understanding the details, taking on challenges and finding better ways to approach the work in front of him. As a quality control specialist, that mindset has made an impact not only on his own work, but across the QC team.

In his new role, Nat will help oversee the quality of the materials leaving our plants. It’s work that moves quickly and requires a sharp eye, sound judgment and constant communication. A typical day can include inspecting and testing materials, communicating with plants to assess mix needs, analyzing data and specifications, identifying trends and making adjustments as conditions change.

That responsibility reflects several of the core values that guide our work at Lehman-Roberts. Integrity means approaching our work with accountability and holding ourselves to a high standard. Excellence means continually looking for ways to improve our materials and processes. And safety remains fundamental to the decisions we make throughout our operations.

Nat has already shown that approach in action. In a previous employee spotlight, he was recognized for developing a QC tool to help the team blend and report asphalt mix test results more efficiently. The tool provided another resource to help QC employees evaluate mix changes and make informed decisions. That same curiosity and willingness to take on a challenge will continue to serve him well as he steps into leadership.

With retirement on the horizon, Johnny Houston, current QC Manager of Outgoing Materials, shared his confidence in Nat stepping into the role: “Nat is going to be a great asset to the QC management team. He is quick to embrace new ideas and eager to learn new techniques. I believe the department has a bright future with the leaders we have in place.”

For Cory Collins, director of quality control, Nat’s persistence stands out. “Nat is relentless when trying to solve a challenge. He doesn’t quit until the challenge is resolved. We’re excited to see him excel in this role.”

That drive to keep learning and improving will also be important as the team looks ahead. New paving techniques and technologies bring opportunities to continue improving the way we work while supporting the quality and sustainability of the materials we produce.

Don Fletcher, vice president of manufacturing and quality control, sees Nat’s curiosity as an important part of that future. “Nat’s inquisitive nature will help us move forward with new paving techniques and technologies in the future. He has a drive to understand not just what we’re doing, but how we can do it better. That mindset will be valuable as we continue looking for new ways to improve our materials and processes.”

As Nat takes this next step, he brings nearly a decade of experience with Lehman-Roberts, a strong understanding of quality control and a desire to keep learning, improving and finding better ways to approach the work.

Congratulations, Nat, on a well-earned promotion. We’re excited to see what you bring to this new role and to the future of our quality control team.
