With a career spanning more than two decades in construction, Leroy Shaw’s mastery of an asphalt plant is second to none. Possessing experience across a variety of Lehman-Roberts’ asphalt plant sites, Leroy spent the majority of his career at Plant 6 located in Hernando, MS. After beginning as a groundman, he quickly moved up to loader operator, plant operator, and finally foreman. In April 2025, Leroy rang in a new accomplishment and season of life: retirement.
“Leroy was fantastic in any part of the role. He could and did do any job that needed to be done at the plant,” summarized Howard Green, superintendent. In fact, Leroy was so skilled at coaching and mentoring that, for some time, new hires in our asphalt plants division were assigned to his supervision during their first few weeks on the job.
Howard added, “He treated his team extremely well, but also expected excellence from them. That brought out a lot of respect from his peers.”
“When Leroy comes to mind, I think of loyalty and stewardship for this company. He took pride in taking care of his asphalt plant and his people. He’s never shied away from a challenge and was always willing to lend a hand,” remarked Blake Kimbrough, assistant superintendent.
Often described as having a calm demeanor, Leroy would let his work speak for itself. John Paul Finerson, now retired vice president from Lehman-Roberts, formed a bond with Leroy after working closely alongside one another for years. He perfectly described, “I truly enjoyed my time working with Leroy and watching how he quietly, selflessly, and respectfully led and developed his people. He is greatly respected by everyone due to his calm demeanor, no-nonsense management, and his excellent results.”
Don Fletcher, vice president of manufacturing and quality control, mirrored JP’s sentiment by adding, “Leroy really took care of business. He had a sense of calm about him… he never really got raddled when challenges arose. We’re all really going to miss him.”
Adam Webb, now acting foreman for Plant 6, trained alongside Leroy for 5 years of his career. “Leroy taught me pretty much everything I know about an asphalt plant. He’s a [strong] leader and foreman,” he said. “You could ask anyone in the company, and they’d have good things to say. He’s just an all-around great guy.”
“He represented all of our core values extremely well. Combine that with his incredible work ethic and being a good family man… a lot of the team looked up to him,” closed Howard.
From the team at Lehman-Roberts, we wish you joy, prosperity, and all the best in your next endeavors, Leroy!
