Our employee of the month series, Blueprint for Excellence, shines a spotlight on team members who go above and beyond, lead by example, and champion our core values in everything they do. Some team members make their impact behind the scenes, ensuring others have the support, resources, and encouragement they need to succeed. Sherilyn Steele is one of those people. Through her daily interactions with employees across the organization, Sherilyn has become a trusted resource, a familiar face in the field, and an advocate for employee well-being. Her commitment to caring for others and supporting our crews is what makes her this month’s Blueprint for Excellence honoree.
As a Safety Specialist, Sherilyn plays a vital role in helping employees stay prepared, supported, and equipped for the work ahead. Whether she is coordinating equipment and supplies, assisting employees with their needs, or spending time with crews in the field, she approaches every task with a servant’s heart and a genuine desire to help others. Her efforts often happen quietly, but the impact they have on employees across the organization is significant.
Hunter Franklin, Foreman and the employee who nominated Sherilyn, shared how much of a difference she makes for employees working in the field.
“Sherilyn is an invaluable part of our team and plays a huge role in keeping our crews safe, prepared, and supported every day,” Hunter said. “As a member of our Safety Department, she goes above and beyond to make sure we have the equipment, supplies, and resources we need to do our jobs safely and efficiently. She doesn’t stop there. Sherilyn regularly visits our road crews, checking in on everyone, bringing snacks and cold drinks, and making sure we stay hydrated, especially during these long, hot days. Her dedication to the well-being of every employee doesn’t go unnoticed.”
What sets Sherilyn apart is the way she consistently puts people first. Whether she is helping solve a problem, delivering needed supplies, or simply checking in with employees throughout the day, she takes the time to make meaningful connections. Those small acts help create an environment where employees feel valued, cared for, and supported.
Eric Allen, Director of Environmental, Health, and Safety, shared his appreciation for the example Sherilyn sets every day.
“Sherilyn exemplifies what it means to lead with compassion, care, and genuine concern for our people,” Eric said. “She demonstrates every day that safety is about more than policies and procedures, it’s about people. She takes the time to listen, support, and look out for every employee, and that care is evident in the trust and respect she has earned across our organization. I’m incredibly proud to have her on our team and grateful for the example she sets every day.”
