Lehman-Roberts/Memphis Stone & Gravel Win National Award for Community Involvement

The National Asphalt Pavement Association (NAPA) announced that Lehman-Roberts and Memphis Stone & Gravel, both members of the Granite Construction group of companies, were the winners of the 2025 Community Involvement Award. The company received its award during the association’s Annual Meeting in Scottsdale, Ariz.

“NAPA members redefine excellence far beyond crafting superior asphalt pavements. The Operational Excellence Awards celebrate a company’s resolute commitment to transformative practices that position them as exemplary contractors, influential industry leaders, and vital community partners,” said Pat Nelson, 2025 NAPA Chairman.

Lehman-Roberts and its sister company, Memphis Stone & Gravel, won the award for the fourth consecutive year for its Community Engagement program. In 2025, nearly 92% of the company’s employees participated in 25 community activities across the greater Memphis and northern Mississippi area, contributing 2,365 volunteer hours. The cornerstone of the community engagement is the annual MLK Days of Service. The team completes around 40 projects ranging from light demolition and fence building to painting and playground construction, supporting community development, education, food security, and veterans’ services causes. The commitment continues with additional service projects every other month, such as providing meals for firefighters and assembling care packages for local shelters.

Each company regularly hosts field trips at their asphalt plants and mining sites for students and participates in more than 15 career fairs and educational events annually, reaching thousands of students, veterans, and workforce development participants. An employee sponsorship program funded about 25 sponsorships for local schools, sports teams, community outreach events, and golf tournaments.

The companies’ year-end giving campaign invites employees to donate to selected charities with every contribution matched dollar-for-dollar by the company, raising more than $9,800 for four organizations. Following spring tornadoes and flooding across the Southeast, the company provided financial support and essential supplies to four local disaster relief organizations assisting those affected in western Tennessee, northern Mississippi, and eastern Arkansas.
