More than 300 employees to complete 25 service projects in South Memphis
On January 21, Lehman-Roberts Co. and Memphis Stone & Gravel Co. employees will join together, once again, in support of the Soulsville and South Memphis communities. 2019 marks the fifth MLK Day of Service for the two companies.
“This is a day our employees look forward to every year,” said Pat Nelson, Chairman of the Board. “Our companies’ mission is to help the communities where we live and work to thrive, and our mission for MLK Day of Service each year is to show our gratitude and responsibility for those communities.”
Lehman-Roberts Co. and Memphis Stone & Gravel Co. first participated in MLK Day of Service in 2015, partnering with Clean Memphis on clean-up projects in and around Soulsville. Over the last five years, the companies’ involvement has expanded to more than 15 community partners and approximately 75 service projects.
The 2019 Day of Service will include partnerships with Habitat for Humanity ReStore, Memphis Delta Preparatory and Multi-National Ministries, in addition to Lehman-Roberts’ renewed partnerships with Advance Memphis, Alcy Ball Development Association, Clean Memphis, KnowledgeQuest, Memphis Athletic Ministries and STREETS Ministries. Employee teams will be performing a variety of tasks for these organizations such as clearing trees and debris from vacant properties, installing benches and fencing, constructing a walking trail refurbishing various facilities and more. The companies will also jointly donate materials and equipment use, along with labor, for a number of improvement projects.
“Memphis Athletic Ministries, Memphis Delta Preparatory, Knowledge Quest and STREETS Ministries are devoted to investing in the children of our great city, and our companies are fortunate to be able to support their efforts,” said Hal Willford, President of Memphis Stone & Gravel.
