At Lehman-Roberts Co. and Memphis Stone & Gravel Co., our greatest asset is our people. 1. Why do you enjoy working here? How do the company’s core values impact your day-to-day responsibilities?
It’s good, steady work for people who care about the little guy. When your company cares about you, it makes you feel good after years of working for them. You feel appreciated.
2. How have you seen the company change for the better during your tenure? List specific changes in operations, projects, growth, etc.
Our equipment was pretty bad back in those days. We didn’t even have air conditioning in the equipment, so if you got too hot, you had to open the windows. But then the dust was bad. Now, we have good, safe equipment, and that makes a BIG difference. When I started, the hourly guys didn’t have any benefits, but the benefits are inclusive now. We even have 401k and pensions plans.
3. You’ve been with the company for a long time…what about the company culture made it the right fit for you?
It is a family-run operation, run by God-fearing people. The most important thing to me is my faith. I believe God can do all things – He just might not do them right away. I’m a praying man, and a lot of the things I prayed for, God has delivered through this company. It’s a good company to work for.
